The Siamese Cat is one of the most recognisable distinctly unique breeds in the world. Originating from South East Asia and native to Thailand this is now a common breed across the whole globe, particularly in Europe and North America. This breed is famous for its blue eyes and extremely people friendly personality. The Siamese has been used by breeders to develop new breeds such as the Balinese, Burmese, Himalayan and Ocicat to name just a few.
The Siamese Cat has a short, fine and soft coat and is elegantly built with a well muscled body. Its heads is triangular in shape with large pointy ears on top. Their famous eyes are almond shaped and blue in colour.
This breed of cat has pointed colouring which is the result of a mutated enzyme used in the production of melanin. This enzyme is sensitive to heat and becomes active in the coolest parts of the cats skin. This means that the breed have dark coloration in the coolest parts of their body (the face, paws and tale). The breed differ in colour depending on the weather, hot climates generally produce lighter coats than cold climates.
This is a very affectionate breed that love human attention. It is very common for these cats to approach people in the road as they are generally very friendly by nature. They are an intelligent breed of cat that can be very vocal with their low pitched 'Meezer'. The Siamese do require a lot of activity and many owners own two cats because of their naturally playful characteristics. This perhaps allows them to get into twice as much trouble!!! The character of the Siamese is unique and many owners will never own another breed again after looking after a Siamese.
Siamese Health Issues
This breed is more prone to cancer caused by neoplasia than most other breeds.

This is a fantastic cat breed that has intelligence in abundance and a personality to match. They do like to use their large brains and this can sometimes get them into trouble! Keeping them in doors however can cause behaviour problems and many people who do keep their cats indoors would recommend two to help stimulate there minds. A good quality cat insurance policy is recommended for this curious breed. We love this breed of cat, if you want a stunning cat with a great personality and who crave human attention this breed may be for you!
